"Plessi at Caracalla. The secret of time"

Once again we are stunned by the beauty that can unleash the integration of the contemporary and the ancient art. In a completely new key, Fabrizio Plessi put it in place, curated by Alberto Fiz, at the Baths of Caracalla.

The protagonists are two: on the one hand the video art, with the accompaniment of Michael Nyman, who has expressly composed the music for the occasion, and on the other the basements of the baths, specifically the sector below the exedra of the calidarium .

These places, which pay homage to the greatness of Rome, were closed to the public and were subjected before the inauguration not only to important restoration works but also reintegrated with some ancient works that originally resided here.

Plessi opens his work with a large virtual book dedicated to his long career and creates 12 video installations specifically for this place, both in the structures supporting the screens and in the contents of the videos themselves. This ad hoc project gives form to a gigantic and unique installation that develops throughout the dedicated space.

The two protagonists meet and chase each other all along the way: Plessi with his very technological, virtual project, something of great actuality, a kind of archeology of the future; and the imperial baths the beating heart of the plant and a unique example of the high technological level reached by the ancient Romans.

The common thread is the classic elements: water, fire, wind and their mutation, the recurring themes in Plessi's works. And the same elements that made the baths work.

The natural biological graft, as defined by Plessi himself, between his work and these places was done thanks to the recall of the memory necessary to design the future: 'I could never imagine a sign of mine without the other signs that were there before '.

The result of all this wanted to be, and succeeded, to make this great Rome of the past an emotional experience .... amoR.
